Thessaloniki is getting a mammoth parking lot with more than 1,000 parking spaces

The new parking lot, which will be created as part of the major redevelopment of TIF-HELEXPO, will have a total of 1,064 parking spaces and will be part of an extensive project that will change the image of the co-capital by 2030.

One of the largest underground parking complexes ever designed for Thessaloniki is on track for implementation, aspiring to breathe life into the chronic parking problem in the city center. The new parking lot, which will be created as part of the major redevelopment of TIF-HELEXPO, will have a total of 1,064 parking spaces and will be part of an extensive project that will change the image of the co-capital by 2030.

The parking lot with 1,064 spaces

The construction of the new parking area is part of the overall renovation of the TIF exhibition center. According to the plan, 420 seats will be created under the renovated ‘Ioannis Vellidis’ Conference Center, while the rest will be developed under the new exhibition buildings Hall 1 and Hall 2, creating a single underground complex that will serve visitors and residents of the area.

The great reconstruction of the TIF

The project has already entered the tender process and includes, in addition to the new parking lot, the construction of two modern exhibition buildings, the complete renovation of the ‘Ioannis Vellidis’ Conference Center, extensive demolitions and the creation of a metropolitan park of approximately 120 acres. The aim is to upgrade the area with new public infrastructure and modern facilities that will strengthen the role of Thessaloniki as an exhibition and conference destination.

Timetable and funding

The renovation of the Conference Center will be carried out gradually, mainly during the summer months, in order to limit the effects on the operation of the TIF. The project is financed by national resources, with a total budget of 204.6 million euros. The signing of the contract is estimated to take place towards the end of 2026, while the completion of the overall renovation is foreseen by 2030, with partial delivery of the individual projects.
