Free Respiratory Screening on October 13
The Municipality of Thessaloniki is organizing free spirometry examinations for citizens over the age of 40 on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The screening will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the municipal clinics located at 53–55 Monastiriou Street.
The initiative is being carried out by the municipal clinics of the Municipality of Thessaloniki in cooperation with a volunteer pulmonologist. Its main purpose is to support the prevention and early diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly known as COPD.
Who Should Take Part
The free examinations are intended particularly for people over 40 who currently smoke, have smoked in the past, or experience chronic respiratory problems. Individuals who regularly suffer from coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or reduced exercise tolerance may also benefit from discussing their respiratory health with a medical professional.
A Simple and Painless Examination
Spirometry is a straightforward, non-invasive test that measures how well the lungs are functioning. During the examination, participants breathe into a specialized device, allowing healthcare professionals to assess airflow and identify possible respiratory difficulties.
Although the test is simple and painless, it can provide valuable information about breathing capacity and help detect signs associated with COPD at an early stage. Early assessment may support timely medical guidance and better management of respiratory health.
Appointments and Participation
Participation is completely free of charge, but an appointment is required. Interested citizens can arrange their visit by calling 2313 318920 or 2313 318948. Residents who meet the age and health criteria are encouraged to contact the municipal clinics in advance and take advantage of this preventive health action.
