The Region presented its potential as a top destination for ecotourism, birdwatching, and sustainable experiences in nature, especially for Kerkini, where emphasis was placed on the rich biodiversity of the area, the rare bird colonies, and the authentic experiences it offers to visitors.
The pavilion of the Region of Central Macedonia attracted particular interest from visitors and industry professionals, who were informed about the natural wealth of the area, its important wetlands, the protected areas of the Natura 2000 network, and the possibilities it offers for bird watching and mild outdoor recreation activities throughout the year.
The program of the exhibition also included a presentation on ‘The wetlands of the Region of Central Macedonia’, through which the prospects for the development of ecotourism and responsible birdwatching in the area were highlighted, attracting the interest of numerous audiences. At the same time, Central Macedonia gained additional international visibility through an advertisement in the BBC Wildlife magazine, one of the most internationally recognized publications in the fields of nature, wildlife, and nature tourism, which was distributed to the visitors and exhibitors of Global Birdfair.
It is noted that the Global Birdfair is the most important international event dedicated to birdwatching, nature tourism, and biodiversity conservation, bringing together hundreds of exhibitors from all over the world, as well as thousands of visitors, tourism professionals, journalists, representatives of environmental organizations, and nature friends.
In her statements, the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Vicky Hatzivassiliou, pointed out that the participation of the Region in the event is a particularly important investment in extroversion and the international promotion of a tourism product of high added value, as, as she said, the region has unique ecosystems, wetlands of international importance, and experiences that can attract visitors all year round. At the same time, he mentioned that the excellent response of the public confirms that Central Macedonia has now been established as a top destination for friends of nature, birdwatching, and ecotourism.
